As early as 1876, the Monopoly des Tabacs offered tobacconists price lists listing all or part of the products they could order for their customers (tobacco from the Régie, imported tobacco, etc.). These lists are then intended to be displayed in outlets, with a view to informing consumers.
It was not until 1921 that these lists appeared in the form of catalogues, which the consumer could then take away.
These two formats disappeared in 1928 in favor of catalogs this time illustrated ... and in color. The most complete catalogs are said to be "official". Their production disappeared definitively in 1939. The Régie, like the foreign firms, henceforth made their products known through modernized advertising channels: Press and Advertisements at points of sale in particular.
Advertising in the press was banned in 1992. Point-of-sale advertising, largely regulated from 2003, was definitively banned in 2011.
